AskCecile is a legal information service operated by Seekefy (Pty) Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using AskCecile you agree to this policy.
1. What we collect
- Questions you ask — the text of your legal question, your selected country, and language.
- Usage data — a randomly generated user ID stored in your browser, the number of questions asked per day, and your IP address (hashed for privacy).
- Payment information — if you subscribe, payment is processed by PayFast. We do not store card details.
- Contact information — only if you contact us directly by email.
2. What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your name unless you provide it voluntarily.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not use your questions to train AI models.
3. How we use your information
- To answer your legal questions using our AI-powered legal engine.
- To enforce fair-use limits (5 free questions per day per user).
- To prevent abuse and protect service availability.
- To improve the quality and accuracy of answers.
4. Third-party services
AskCecile uses the following third-party services to operate:
- OpenAI – to generate legal answers. Your question is sent to OpenAI's API. See OpenAI Privacy Policy.
- Google Custom Search – to retrieve legal sources and case law.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) – to host the service infrastructure. Data is stored in the EU (Stockholm).
- PayFast – to process payments for South African subscribers.
5. ChatGPT / GPT Actions
AskCecile is available as a custom GPT on ChatGPT. When you use AskCecile through ChatGPT, your question is sent to our backend API to retrieve a grounded legal answer. We receive only the question text, country, and language — we do not receive your ChatGPT account details or identity.
6. Data retention
Usage records (question counts) are retained for a rolling 24-hour window and then automatically deleted. We do not maintain a permanent history of your questions.
7. Your rights
You may request deletion of any data associated with your user ID or IP address by contacting us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children
AskCecile is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of AskCecile constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
